How We Build

Building your new home will be one of the largest single investments of your life.  Tomah Lumber constructs one of the best-built homes in the area, while giving you the highest value for your dollar.

Construction starts with obtaining all the necessary permits.  We then stake out the house with the proper setbacks requirements and the correct elevations.  The excavator then digs the basement.  After the excavation is completed, the mason pours the footings and the foundation walls with all the necessary re-rod.  The foundation forms are then stripped and the mason installs the draintile both inside and outside.  The plumber then roughs in the basement floor.  After the foundation has cured for a week the excavator returns and backfills the foundation.  During this time we are coordinating the necessary utilities such as electrical, gas, telephone, cable TV, sewer and water laterals.

After the backfilling is complete, we start framing the building with only the highest quality building materials such as treated sill plates, douglas fir floor joists, TJI joist, engineered floor trusses, OSB floor and wall sheeting, 2x6 walls, Typar house wrap, engineered roof trusses and OSB roof sheeting.

After the framing is completed, the subcontractors come in and rough in the plumbing, heating and electrical.  We then insulate, foamseal and poly the home with only experienced insulators to insure warm, tight, energy efficient homes.  While this is being done, the roofing contractor is installing the 15 lb. ASTM felt and the 25 yr asphalt shingles.  Also, the siding contractor is installing your high quality cedar or vinyl siding with optional brick accents.

The drywall contractor then hangs the sheetrock, tapes, textures and primes and paints the walls and ceiling of your home with a high quality off-white enamel paint.

Our experienced trim carpenters then install the doors, case, casing, railings, cabinets, countertops, closets, bathrooms accessories, locksets and all the finishing touches.  Meanwhile, the plumbing, electrical and HVAC contractors complete their responsibilities.  After the trim carpenters and all the subcontractors are completed, the floor coverings are then installed.
